Leaves of Senna or Sana Makki are also used in cases of transient constipation and intestinal purging, in cases of hemorrhoids because the properties of its anthracenes, which are the active ingredients of Senna, inhibit the reabsorption of the water and electrolytes in the large intestine, thus causing loose stools that facilitate defecation.
Its purgative effect can be triggered approximately 10 hours after its use.
Long-term use may result in loss of certain minerals such as potassium and cause hypokalaemia and gastrointestinal cramps.
Not recommended for pregnant, lactating women and children under 12 years of age.
